I Start Fires

Well, really the fire wasn't my fault. As we did a clearing patrol that had become a section attack, I looked over to the far right. I noticed a red smoke grenade had been set off. And a white one. Uh oh, I though, we were'nt supposed to have white because we have no masks. And then I noticed the white smoke going up. Ah, tripflare. And it wasn't stopping. Huh.

And then, five minutes after our clearing patrol, someone looked back..."We've got a fire going here." The tripflare had ignited the grass and we now had a decent sized fire. Thankfully we were able to get most of it out using our canteens and feet, but it still required a fire extinguisher.

Later that day...I mean, very early the next morning while on OP, the OPFOR hit the trench line that my section (minus myself and my fireteam partner) occupied. And then skirmishes erupted all around us. Possibly even some blue-on-blue. But they never hit us at the OP for some reason.

We ended up doing a very long shift at the OP, because our relief came back from the fire fight and decided to go to bed. We were there from 0130 to 0530, so I'm not sure what went wrong. Our 2ic, in the OP with us, told us at one point that we might as well put our heads down for a while. "But I'll fall asleep," my fireteam partner said. "Yeah," was 2ic's response.

Another fire at the end of the day. Our tripflare ignited a tree, but we acted quickly and were able to put it out with just two of us.

And the day prior a bear had set off at least one...and apparently watched it burn.

Good times had by all.
